Backer’s leadership will be welcomed at Capitol

Submitted to the Marshall Independent

To the editor:

By now people are well aware of the looming deficit to our state's biennium budget. In 2006 there was nearly a $2 billion surplus. Decisions by the current leadership of the House of representatives have now left us facing a projected $6 billion deficit. Many would say, "How could we get ourselves into this mess?"

I would like to offer an alternative. The history of the United States has proven time and again that out of difficult times come great things. From the greatest generation of WWII to the brave civil servants of 9/11, in difficult times good people have stepped forward to answer the call. Hard work, resourcefulness and the willingness to make the tough decision has always been the quality of a great leaders. This is what we need right now for our state.

Time for a new voice

Submitted to the West Central Tribune

Andrew Falk’s absence at the Minnesota Transportation Alliance’s Regional Meeting and Candidate Forum held Monday in Marshall is yet another sign he fails to look out for the best interest of his district. State Senator Gary Kubly and other area legislators and candidates were there, why not Falk?

Dear Editor:

Everybody loves a good rumor. It tickles the ear. It astounds us or makes us angry. A rumor is definitely easy to swallow. The truth, however, is not so easy. It takes more explanation. Truth can be complex and mundane. The truth takes time to digest. That is why some people choose to spread rumors. They have a desire to hurt or take someone down in a way truth cannot.

Andrew Falk and his friends have decided to spread a rumor about me by saying I do not really live in the district I hope to represent. This is a manufactured story and completely not true. Rather than discuss his record, or engage in constructive discussion about our differing visions for job creation and economic development, Falk's campaign is engaged in the politics of personal destruction.

Backing Byberg and Backer

Submitted to the Marshall Independent

To the editor:

It is time to take a check on the direction politics is taking in our area. In 2010 some 15 money bills came before our house of representatives. The district 20 A representative, Andrew Falk, voted taxpayer friendly 7 percent of the time. This is from 2010 legislative scorecard of the Taxpayers League of Minnesota.

Trying to create ‘scandal’ in 20A

Submitted to the Marshall Independent

To the editor:

I'm amused by the citizens of our neighboring counties who have attempted to create a "scandal" regarding Dist. 20A candidate Jay Backer. Had they spent less time paging through a phone book and done a little bit of legitimate research, they would be aware that the Secretary of State would never have allowed Mr. Backer to run in the district if he did not meet the residency requirement. End of story.

Some people will do anything to keep an election from being about the issues.
